Ultra4 in Force at Silver State 300

April 27, 2011 –LAS VEGAS, NV: They go by many names – rock crawlers, rock racers, King of the Hammers cars, but to the devoted fans that closely follow the unlimited 4 wheel drive racing class that has evolved from King of the Hammers style events: They are known as Ultra4, and they are showing up in mass this weekend at the Best in the Desert Silver State 300. With more than 35 cars expected at the start line in Alamo, NV, the Ultra4 cars sporting 4400 numbers will be the single largest class racing this Saturday.
Silver State 300 is the 2nd event in the 2011 Ultra4 series, and it’s going to be an exciting high speed desert race. Many of the fastest Ultra4 cars will be in attendance, including this year’s King of the Hammers; Shannon Campbell (4495) and KOH 2nd place finisher Tony Pellegrino (4485), competing against 2010’s King and Ultra4 Silver State 300 winner; Loren Healy (4428).  This year will be the first time the 2 Kings have faced each other in a BiTD race.  Last year Campbell competed in his Class 1 car while Healy did battle with 2009 Ultra4 Vegas to Reno winner, Kevin Sacalas (4435).  Fans are excited to see how fast these cars will be as many of the driver’s that raced in last year’s event have returned this season with newer, faster cars including: Jt Taylor(4413), Loren Healy (4428), Kevin Yoder (4434), Kevin Sacalas (4435) and Barry Beadle (4452).
After last month’s Blackwell 250, where the Lovell’s Ultra4 car claimed the overall win in a race that included trophy trucks, Ultra4 Fans are looking forward to seeing not only how the 4400 cars compete against each other, but how they compare to the other classes. It should be noted that the Lovell’s will also be competing this weekend in Roger Lovell’s 4432 Ultra4 car.  Due to the unlimited nature of class, where the primary requirement to race is a 4WD transfer case, there will be quite a combination of vehicles competing this weekend. The class will contain cars built with straight axles, independent front suspensions (IFS) and twin traction beams (TTB). Fans can also expect to see some 4400 cars this Saturday that typically wouldn’t compete at Ultra4 events like the King of The Hammers.  In fact, Dave Moore (4440) will be driving a Class 3 Bronco that last competed in the Baja 1000.

For those wanting to see the Ultra4 cars in person, tech inspection and contingency will be held this Friday, April 29 at the Aliante Station Casino in Las Vegas, NV. The race is a no chase race through the Nevada desert, so the best way for fans to follow the action will be online at www.racetheworld.net. Ultra4 fans can also take part in a live online chat at www.pirate4x4.com as they cheer on their favorite 4400 cars.
