BORDER CROSSING INFORMATION
INSURANCE
Every vehicle that comes into Mexico must have an insurance policy from a Mexican insurance company.
Hammerking has partnered with Baja Bound insurance for the race. They are quick easy, and everything can be done online before you leave home. https://www.bajabound.com/us/
IMMIGRATION
Mexican Immigration requires all foreigners entering Mexico for a period of over 3 days to fill out a form. This form can be accessed at https://www.inm.gob.mx/fmme/publico/solicitud.html
If you are staying less than 7 days, it is free. More than that it is around $30. You must have a passport or passport card to obtain an FMM.
We strongly recommend downloading and filling out this form before your travels so only the form stamping at the border will be required making your entry quicker and with no forms to be filled at the immigration desk.
U.S. and Canadian citizens are now asked to carry a passport, passport card or other authorized form of documentation, like an Enhanced Drivers License, Sentri, NEXUS or FAST pass to return to the U.S. Crossing with a birth certificate and a picture ID like a driver’s license is still allowed but may create delays.
RACE CARS AND CHASE VEHICLES
All race vehicles must bring some form of documentation, be it license plates/bill of sale or fabrication if available. We understand most race vehicles do not have a factory chassis or vin number, so even though it is not a specific requirement it could come in handy.
PARTS AND TOOLS LIST
When it comes to parts and tools, an itemized list is required for all race and chase vehicles bringing in parts. We are enclosing an items list mock up or dummy to be used as an example. They could focus on checking this parts lists more than immigration and race cars. The more you itemize on the list, the better.
TIRES AND GASOLINE
Crossing gasoline is PROHIBITED. Only the gasoline in the race gas tanks is allowed (in the car’s fuel cell).
When it comes to tires for the race car, so far you can bring as many spare tires as needed, but only 4 can be brought in tax free, from the 5th spare mounted tire on, there will be a tax charge per tire depending on the tire price (around 15 dlls per tire). We are working on getting permission for more tires to be allowed to be crossed without charge, but will be informed in time if we can get this done.
BORDER CROSSING LOGISTICS CARAVAN
The city and CODE OFF ROAD will be supplying a couple of courtesy escorts from the border to San Felipe on specific dates and hours, we recommend racers set up a rendezvous point in the US and drive up to the border as a group, this way we can expedite the border crossing, have a city official or race volunteer help out at the border and have and escort/guide all the way to San Felipe.
All though caravans are suggested they are not required, any Ultra4 race car, chase truck or team can cross the border at any time and should have no issues getting across the border and to San Felipe.
The caravan estimated days and times of departure from the US will be:
PLACE: Walmart parking lot at 2540 Rockwood ave, Calexico, CA, 92231
CROSSING: East Border Crossing 1699 Carr Rd, Calexico, CA, 92231 (closes at 2 PM)
DATE AND TIMES
Wednesday – Meet at Noon, 12:30 departure
Thursday – Meet at Noon, 12:30 departure
