Bill Kunz

Drivers Bio:

Bill Kunz’s off road pursuits began on a little motocross bike back in the early 80’s. After many years of screaming around the dirt roads of Northern Virginia, Bill moved to Lake Tahoe after graduating from West Virginia University in 1993. There, Bill spent years running enduro bikes, Jeep’s and anything else he could get his hands on through the thousands of miles of trails and fire roads that the Sierra’s have to offer. In 2008, Bill set out to turn his company, Torchmate, into a force in the off-road racing world. Torchmate Racing was started with a custom built rock crawler. Bill competed in the WE Rock national rock crawling series as well as local Northern California Calrocs series for a few years before moving into the desert to help expand the brand and his experience. Bill’s desert racing career started in the Jeepspeed class. After a lot of bumps and bruises eventually he graduated to Class 7. Bill has multiple class wins, series wins and has competed all over the country. Bill has also experienced the highs and lows of KOH, including navigating for Brad Lovell in 2010 in the big race and missing the 1st place spot by 28 seconds. In 2010, Bill set a goal for his race team to build a one of a kind race car. The TTB car was born. Using a combination of old and new technology, Bill’s crew created a true work of art. After selling his company in 2011 and having to be off the race course for a number of years, Bill asked then team crew chief JT Taylor to race the TTB car. After a long and winding road, in 2021, the TTB car found its way back to Bill. “I can’t be any more excited to get back in the drivers seat in 2021. I’ve spent the last handful of years cruising the fire roads of NW Montana. Time to get back to the desert. Pushing myself and the machine as far and as fast as we can go is where I find a lot of peace. I’ve missed it. I’ve missed the racing community.”.
